Attending Members: Mike Harnad, Greg Suchy (arrived @ 7:22PM), Joseph Colangelo, and Al Ference.   John Sahi, Dave Harding, Terry Garneau, Chris Garneau, and Jack Smith were also in attendance.
Meeting called to order at 7:08 PM.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were not reviewed, and will be reviewed at the next meeting.

GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Dave Harding, Willington’s Superintendent of Schools, presented a form to be used by Willington Recreation and other groups for events held at the Hall School Gym.  The checklist includes some of the following items; Doors Secure, Lights Off, Bathrooms Clean, Floors Clean, Gym Lights Off, and others.  The list requires signatures of attending responsible adults, including time and date.  The list is very comprehensive, and if used properly should help to keep the gym and lobby clean. It was suggested that a schedule of events occurring in the gym be posted in the lobby to keep all groups aware of scheduled gym use.  Mr. Harding suggested that the various Willington Commissions and Boards meet occasionally during each year to discuss overlapping areas of concern.  This will help to solve problems and optimize each group’s ability to work with other groups, optimizing our individual abilities.

Jack Smith of the Willington Little League discussed maintenance issues for the baseball fields.  It was suggested that a joint effort between the Public Works Department, the WRC, and the BOF be made to help keep the fields in better shape.  Possibly a plan that points out what is necessary, the possible cost of maintenance, and who could be responsible for the various jobs.  The fields discussed are Hall School, Center School, the RRAC, and Town Hall Office Fields.  If some money could be added to the Recreation Fund, and Little League and Soccer made contributions, better maintenance would be possible.  John Sahi will create a RFP concerning this possibility and present it at our next meeting.

Terry Garneau discussed our recreational basketball program.  It was suggested that we participate more with other towns for travel teams.  Bolton and Ashford were suggested as towns that may want to become part of a “league’ next year.  Terry will be a committee chairperson for this program, and help to get the “league” started.  John Sahi will request some help from the Recreation Directors in these towns.  Terry will need to get started on this soon in order to implement it in our next season.

DIRECTORS REPORT:
No director’s report was given.

OLD BUSINESS:
In regards to the RRAC, Kent fencing will complete outfield fencing by next week, and Chris Deskus will complete the dugout roofing by opening day.  Signs concerning park use will need to be created and posted.  John Sahi will review this and report to the WRC about implementation.  Funding to complete these items is available.

NEW BUSINESS:
A.      Summer camp flyers will be posted ASAP.  This year the camp will require a pre-pay per week for each camper with no discounts available.  A summer baseball camp will be added to the Recreation program this year.
B.      Funding is needed to complete work at the RRAC.  The Recreation Department applied for STEAP funding this year, but was passed over by another grant proposed by the Selectmen’s Office.  The WRC needs to connect with local government to apply for funding.  It was suggested that we contact Bryan Hurlburt for assistance.  He is available at Bryan.Hurlburt@cga.ct.gov.

ADJOURNMENT:
Mike Harnad motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Joseph Colangelo.  The meeting adjourned at 9:10PM.  The next meeting is scheduled for April 29, 2008 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.

                                  Respectfully submitted 3/28/08
